Hukama was formed to focus on the intentional, developmental, and complex work that is associated with changing mindsets around equity and dismantling racism. Hukama defines equity as providing communities with what they need, because they deserve it.
It acknowledges that traditionally communities of color and marginalized and minoritized groups are disproportionately impacted by inequity. Inequity takes on additional layers when it impacts immigrant communities and is at the intersection of race, gender and ethnicity.

As an organization, we believe that if the work of equity is not personal, intentional, and carefully planned then it will not be sustainable.
To attain lasting results, Hukama engages leaders and organizations in transformative workshops which challenge their conceptions and perceptions on equity. We build opportunities for individuals to explore both their individual roles and team roles in dismantling oppression and inequities in their own communities.
Hukama offers a comprehensive transformational program that brings participants through six key stages of equity work through the use of interactive workshops and personal reflective journals.
While we know all individuals are in different places on their journey toward understanding and fighting for equity, the complete program is designed to meet all of these people where they are at and help them go further and deeper, through the identification of the key stages: Critical Race Theories, Transformative Culture, and Building Capacity.
